Nut Bread

Aunt Annie
Makes 24 servings.
Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup water boiled
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk scalded
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 6 tablespoons sugar heaping
  • 3 eggs beaten
  • 1 package dry yeast mixed w/ warm water

Directions:
combine boiled water, scaled evaporated milk, shortening and butter until melted. Combine dry ingredients. Make well, add milk mixture. Add eggs. Add yeast. Beat against side of bowl for 5 minutes or until smooth. Refrigerate overnight. Cut into 4 pieces. Roll on floured board. Fill, roll and place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Nut filling:

  • 2 parts chopped walnuts
  • 1 part confectioners sugar
  • beaten egg whites to moisten
