Nut Bread
Aunt Annie
Makes 24 servings.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup water boiled
- 1/2 cup evaporated milk scalded
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup butter
- 4 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons sugar heaping
- 3 eggs beaten
- 1 package dry yeast mixed w/ warm water
Directions:
combine boiled water, scaled evaporated milk, shortening and butter until melted. Combine dry ingredients. Make well, add milk mixture. Add eggs. Add yeast. Beat against side of bowl for 5 minutes or until smooth.
Refrigerate overnight. Cut into 4 pieces. Roll on floured board. Fill, roll and place on greased cookie sheet. Let rise for 1 hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
Nut filling:
- 2 parts chopped walnuts
- 1 part confectioners sugar
- beaten egg whites to moisten
