Nut Bread

Makes 12 servings.
Ingredients:

  • 5 cups flour
  • 5 egg yolks
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 yeast cake
  • 1/2 pint sour cream
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions:
dissolve yeast in warmed milk. Sift sugar and salt in bowl. Add egg yolks, shortening, sour cream and yeast mixture. Knead 5 to 10 minutes until smooth. Let rise 1/2 hour. Cut in half. Roll to 1/4 thickness. Spread with filling and roll. Bake on un-greased cooking sheet at 325 degrees for 50 minutes.
Nut filling:

  • 2 parts chopped walnuts
  • 1 part confectioners sugar
  • beaten egg whites to moisten
